Privacy Policy

Water Break ("the app") helps you build a hydration habit by pausing distracting apps until you take a camera-verified drink of water. This policy describes what we collect and how it's used.
What we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Apple or Google we receive your name, email address, and (for Google) a link to your profile photo. Your first name, or a display name you choose, appears on the in-app leaderboard. The photo link is stored with your account but is not shown anywhere in the app.
- Hydration data. Finished bottles, daily goals, streaks, and related settings are stored on our servers so your progress syncs and ranks on the leaderboard.
- Usage events. We record a small set of in-app milestones — such as opening the app, finishing onboarding, signing in, completing your first water break, and turning on app blocking — along with basic device details (model, operating system, app version, language) and an approximate location derived from your IP address. These are sent to PostHog, our analytics provider, and are linked to a random account ID, never your name or email. We use them only to see where people get stuck and to improve the app.
What we never collect
- Camera footage. Drink detection runs entirely on your device. No photos or video ever leave your phone, and nothing is recorded or stored.
- Your app choices. The list of apps you choose to block is managed entirely on your device — by Apple's Screen Time system on iPhone, and by Android's app-usage and overlay services on Android. It never leaves your device and we cannot see it.
- Health data. If you enable Apple Health sync, drinks are written to Health on your device with your permission. We never read from Apple Health, and Health data is never sent to our servers.
How your data is used
Solely to operate and improve the app: syncing your progress, computing streaks, showing the leaderboard, and understanding how the app is used. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. We share it only with the services that run the app: Cloudflare, which hosts it, and PostHog, which receives the usage events described above and may process them in the United States.
Sharing your results
If you tap Share on your weekly results, the app makes an image on your device and hands it to the app you choose. The image shows your own result and the podium's places and bottle counts, but no one's name. We don't receive or keep a copy.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Device & Account → Delete account inside the app. Deletion is immediate and irreversible. Usage events already sent to PostHog stay tied only to the random account ID, which no longer links to you once your account is gone.
